Security Blanket

I am embarrassed to say how long ago I started this crochet blanket. I didn’t swatch it, and so what was supposed to be a small throw turned into this massive, almost full bed sized, monstrosity. I’ve worked on it through the last 5 moves, 2 previous relationships, and a few job changes. The cost of the yarn is more than if I had just bought something similar on Etsy, and to be honest, I had reached a point where I was irritated everytime I took it out to work on.

But this week I finished the last single crochet on the border. I settled in on the couch, curled up and cozy, and had a moment reminiscing about all the twists and turns my life has taken since I started it. I guess in some ways it has always been a security blanket because it’s Always Been There. Every move when I purged projects, I kept it. Every fall I would drag it out and promise that THIS would be the year I finished it. Before I began any new craft endeavor I would sigh, and think about how I should really wrap that blanket up first. It feels fitting that I can use it during this upcoming winter — the world is going crazy and we all could probably use an extra blanket or two.

I hope you are all cozy and staying well out there…
