Trapping

I walk in the fields across the road as often as I can. It's not posted, it's flat, and I get to see woods and waterways as well as the field, it's wonderful. I've seen a bald eagle, mink, snapping turtle, coyote, as well my juvenile delinquent heron and various geese and ducks. Yesterday I took a friend out there, and since there was snow on the ground we could easily see tire tracks and footprints. I was curious, since I had seen a pickup cruising around the fields for a while now. Sure enough, traps. At least two of them are (as I have learned from reading the VT Fish & Game website) body-hold traps, I'm guessing for muskrat—I had seen trails leading in and out of the cornfield into the river. There is a trap submerged in water I'm not sure about, but it's near the base of the trees I've seen the mink at. I'm really bummed out that my walks now need (for my own peace of mind) to include checking the traps and making sure something isn't suffering. I have my doubts about the landowner checking them daily.

Emptying out the Craft Fair Boxes!

I'm finally done with this foolish cold (knock on wood) and am trying to have a productive day... which means going through the large tupperware containers that I dragged to the craft fairs this summer! I have a few items left over, and I'd love to find homes for them so I can start thinking about new inventory... So I'm offering them at a discounted rate! Send me a message at abrah.work[@]gmail.com if you have any interest -- all the bags are $5 each and mugs are $10 (plus shipping)....

It's Never-ending

You know that feeling... when it seems like the sneezing, coughing, hacking, sore throated-ness is never going to end... that's where I am at. I feel like I am walking around with a mug in constant need of refilling with coffee, tea, broth... Yesterday I went on Zazzle and made a mug for myself. But I liked it enough to put it up in the store, in case any one else needs it.

Stalking Grumpy Animals

It was a gorgeous frosty morning here today so I went for my walk fairly early. There's a field across the road that used to be a pasture for cows, but this summer they planted corn, so it's been fun being able to wander out there whenever I want. I kept seeing flashes of some sort of birds in the brush and snuck over to snap some photos. Two grumpy robins. Someone asked me why all the animals at my place are grumpy. I suspect it's because they get sick and tired of being stalked by me all the time. I chased a grumpy heron up the stream for about 20 minutes yesterday. I imagine they say bad things about me when I'm not around. robin

Go Your Own Way

Every year on my birthday I sort of have a reckoning... Tally up the good and the bad, deposits and debits... So tomorrow I will sit and and jot down who I was during my 46th year in this body. I laughed out loud when I finally grabbed the mail out of our mailbox today (yeah, sometimes we forget it for a day or two).... A lovely person had ordered cards recently, and her check arrived, with this bit of blank notepaper. I think it's perfect to use for the Birthday Reckoning.
